Five Ideas to Make Your Christmas Time Events Amazing

Everybody knows what the traditional Christmas party looks like. Everybody gathers in an office or banquet hall, all dressed to the nines. They snack on a wide variety of Christmas treats, talk about their work, and probably have a bit too much to drink.

Sounds painfully boring, doesn’t it?

What if I told you that your corporate Christmas event doesn’t have to be that way? If you’ve got the time, budget, and creativity, you can put together an utterly amazing event for your employees, one that’ll have them talking all the way through to summer. Have a look at a few of the ideas I’ve put together for you with today’s piece.

Here are some ideas on how to give a little spice to a regular (quite boring) holiday party:

Build An Awesome Ice Village

Most people have fond memories of frolicking in the snow as children – engaging in snowball fights, building snow forts, and putting together snowmen. Instead of throwing a bland Christmas party, try recapturing some of that wonder. Although you probably aren’t going to put together anything as impressive as The Ice Hotel, it couldn’t hurt to look into giving your employees their own winter wonderland in which they can entertain themselves.

Music Makes The World Go ‘Round

There are plenty of things that make the Christmas season unique from every other time of year – caroling is one of them. No, I’m not suggesting you encourage employees to go door to door singing Christmas songs. What I am offering up, however, is the notion that a holiday-themed music festival of some kind might not actually be such a bad idea.

It’s not like Christmas music gigs are without precedent, after all.

People Love Feeling Charitable

Christmas isn’t called the season of giving for no reason. At the very core of the holiday, there’s a certain degree of charity – meaning that this might be the best time of year to raise a bit of coin for a good cause. Mind you, don’t just throw together a fundraising drive; your event needs to have some sort of unique, “Christmassy” angle to it.

Take London’s Great Christmas Pudding Race, for example; or The Santa Dash. They’re both events that are perfectly geared for the Christmas season, and both raise an impressive amount of money for charity every year. Why not try to make something similar?

Light Things Up With Some Creative Decorating

As I’ve mentioned in the past, a city near mine hosts a winter festival every year where they transform a park into an awesome, decorative tapestry of Christmas Lights. Now, you probably aren’t terribly interested in renting out a whole park – but that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with the decorations at your own venue. Consider hosting a tree decorating competition, or challenge staff to design the best Christmas display.   

When In Doubt; Sports

If you aren’t interested in anything I’ve proposed so far, yet you still aren’t so keen on throwing a run-of-the-mill party, give a winter sport or two a look. Run an event at an open-air skating rink, or take your staff up to a ski lodge. You really can’t go wrong here – especially in the latter case, where you can combine a traditional party with skiing/snowboarding.

Now, at this point it’s worth noting that there’s really nothing wrong with hosting a traditional party. If that’s what your staff wants – and you think you can spice it up enough that it’s fun – then go for it. If, however, you’re looking for something a little more unique, then hopefully some of the suggestions here will be enough to get your own creative juices flowing.
