Five Amenities Every Concert Needs To Provide
Last Updated on July 10, 2022
Today, we’re going to shift gears a bit. A lot of the posts I’ve made on this blog have been about conference or trade show management (with a few bits and pieces about wedding management sprinkled here and there). With that in mind, I realized recently I’ve actually been neglecting a fairly large field within the event management industry—concerts.
We’re going to take a look at a few of the most important aspects of any successful concert, and what amenities concerts need to provide. These are things that every concert manager must ensure is included in their planning process. Ignore them, and there’s a very good chance your whole concert might end up a failure.
Amenities concerts need to provide
1. Food And Water
Particularly at outdoor concerts and festivals—which could involve a great deal of physical activity on the part of guests—dehydration is a constant threat. If you’re responsible for running the venue, then you’re also responsible for keeping everybody hydrated. On top of that, I’d recommend having at least a few food vendors on site, as well.
2. A Fully-Stocked Green Room
As a concert manager, you aren’t just taking care of your fans—you also need to take care of your performers. Make sure you have a comfortable green room, stocked with plenty of food and drinks (and not just alcoholic ones—they need to be refreshing, like water, and maybe something that provides electrolytes, like Gatorade, etc).
If your green room is of incredibly poor quality, then your performers are going to be unhappy—and your concert is likely to end up with a bad reputation. Basically, your green room is one of the most important things to take into account when planning a show.
3. Trained Security Personnel
Here’s one thing that concerts have in common with every event: you need security. Trained personnel are a vital component of any event – especially a concert. You need to make sure you’ve people on hand in order to protect your performers, control access to the venue, and keep order if a fight breaks out. Don’t be like Woodstock and skimp out on proper security.
4. A Place For Merchandise To Be Sold
One of the most lucrative components of any concert is the merch booth or merch table, which funnily enough is a place for bands to sell their merchandise. As such, it’s important that you have a place where vendors can set up shop on or near the concert floor. Make sure it’s easily accessible, and clearly visible to everyone attending the show.
5. Coat Check
Last, but certainly not least, you need a coat check area. If you don’t have a coat check area, where are your guests going to store their belongings while watching the concert? Also, make sure you’ve an ironclad filing system in place for your guests, and keep everyone’s belongings as secure as humanly possible, you don’t want to have to deal with theft.
The Show Must Go On
So, there you have it. Presented here are just a few of the most important amenities to provide as a concert manager. Stay tuned for my piece later this week – I’m going to be going over some of the differences between event management and concert management.
